As we aspire to more, we are not earning love, we are growing our capacity out of our love for ourselves and others. We are working to be “strong enough for two.”

Healing Burnout and Building Reserves

Hello Beautiful,

Happy New Year! This time of year, many people feel a mix of enthusiasm and post holiday depletion. I want to help you navigate this territory. Here are some tools that can help you refresh yourself and fuel your next chapter….

Energy is required for all change. If we are exhausted and overwhelmed we cannot source the energy needed for healing and growth. Therefore, our life patterns are the cornerstone of our capacity for growth and change. How we live will greatly impact how much growth we are capable of creating.

Exceptional results require exceptional habits!

A surprising truth is that discipline is created by changing our reference point. Our point of comparison, impacts what we expect as normal.

We begin raising our standard by raising our gaze. Are we looking down at who we are or  at our relative success/failure, more than we are looking up at Jesus?

As we aspire to more, we are not earning love, we are growing our capacity out of our love for ourselves and others. We are working to be “strong enough for two”. Pulling ourself up the mountain is what we do for survival, but, a hero can carry her wounded friend towards safety also.

So, how do we encourage healing and prevent burnout?

We want to focus on prioritizing these three things: sleep, silence, and simplicity. They all heal the nervous system when they are made central.

Sleep helps the nervous system recalibrate and helps provide energy and perspective. Without restorative rest, all the inspiration and good ideas in the world are useless. Aim for 7-9 hours per night. You should sleep enough to feel rested most days.

Next, silence is necessary for processing emotion and thought. It lets things settle in and take root. In a world where we are tempted to fill each waking moment with input, we must build silence into our days. I suggest you start with 15 min each morning, a few tasks each day done in silence, and 15 minutes each evening of total quiet. Aim to increase the amount of time you spend in silence and you will experience more mental clarity and calm.

Lastly, simplicity is key in our environment (decluttering), our scheduling (block scheduling vs constant switching), and our mindset. In this day and age, information and options abound. The ability to edit, simplify, and prioritize are super powers we need to hone.

If we prioritize our sleep and daily silence, and we move towards simplifying our life each day, we will increase our capacity to take action and make change.

It’s our responsibility to protect and to build our energy reserves so we can weather life’s storms with more capacity for wisdom and grace.

I invite you to let this year be the year that you implement these approaches so that you can experience growth in a more intentional way.

Cheering you on!

Rachel
